Presentation #1 details

About the presentation:
Foreign language anxiety is one of the most examined affective variables in the field of foreign language learning and researchers have already verified anxiety reducing strategies of various kinds. They concluded that speaking is the skill most affected by foreign language anxiety and one of its most immediate determinants is the concern over pronunciation.

We applied psycho-social training as an anxiety reducing strategy to a group of English language learners combined with English pronunciation training. Psycho-social training is a non-therapeutic intervention program of active social learning that should help individuals cope with stressful situations.

Presentation #2 details

About the presentation:
The existing research in foreign language learning has concentrated on negative emotions with positive emotions not being as widely studied. The impetus for more detailed consideration of the role of positive emotions in foreign language pedagogy has been supported by developments in positive psychology activating character strengths to enhance professional and personal well-being and by neuroscientific findings in the area of brain-friendly education. Emotionally competent stimuli persist longer in memory and are recalled with greater accuracy and readiness than neutral memories - which might be rather significant in foreign language learning according to the latest research findings.
