Dat Bao is Senior Lecturer in education at Monash University and editor of the Journal for Silence Studies in Education (JSSE). His areas of expertise include silence and speech, creative pedagogy, language and culture, communication, and curriculum development. Notable books include Understanding silence and reticence (Bloomsbury, 2014) and Silence in English language pedagogy (Cambridge University Press, 2023). He has won multiple awards for excellence in teaching and research in Australia.

Maria Luz
Elena N. Canilao is Associate Professor and the current English Department
Chair at the Ateneo de Manila University. Her works focus on
translanguaging; trans-speakerism; language planning and
policy; teacher and learner agency; Philippine Englishes; and Global Englishes.
She is an ACELT (Ateneo Center for English Language Teaching) trainer and
consultant. She has worked with various institutions
including the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher
Education (CHED), and the British Council, Philippines.

Who Speaks English? A Trans-Speakerism Perspective on Representation in Japanese Junior High School EFL Materials
by Natalie Correia (Hakodate L Salle Academy)
Natalie Correia is an educator from Canada working as an instructor
at Hakodate La Salle Academy in Japan. She has earned her master’s degree in
Applied Linguistics from the University of Birmingham. Her research interests
include sociolinguistics and Global Englishes. She is also interested in
building competencies of pedagogical methods and practices to implement in the
classroom.
