This pioneering book provides an introduction to the study of formulaic sequences (such as collocations and phrases), a hot topic in the field of foreign language teaching and applied linguistics. One of the highlights of the book is the large-scale collaborative study that produced an English formulaic familiarity database for Japanese EFL learners, which is available as the appendix. It further discusses diverse topics ranging not only from empirical research but also pedagogical practices and theoretical prospects.
